*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Boya Lake, located in Boya Lake Provincial Park in the remote northern part of British Columbia, is a unique and stunning lake known for its beautiful turquoise color and numerous small islands. Due to its northern latitude and pristine environment, the water remains cool, but the lake is relatively shallow in many areas, allowing the surface to warm seasonally. In the peak summer months, the surface temperature typically reaches a maximum of around 18∘C to 21∘C (64∘F to 70∘F), which is cool but acceptable for short swims. Conversely, the winter months are frigid, with temperatures dropping to the range of 0∘C to 5∘C (32∘F to 41∘F), and the lake freezes over completely.
Swimming is widely permitted and popular at Boya Lake, with the park encouraging swimming, canoeing, and other low-impact water activities. The stunning color and clarity of the water, attributed to its unique marl composition, make it a very attractive place for a dip. The provincial park provides a designated swimming area with a beach, confirming that swimming is an expected activity. However, there are no official lifeguards on duty, meaning all swimming is done at one's own risk. Swimmers should exercise caution regarding the cool temperatures, especially the risk of cold shock outside of the warmest summer days, and be mindful of the occasional boat traffic.
