*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Beothuk Lake, located in central Newfoundland near Millertown, is one of the province’s larger inland freshwater lakes, surrounded by forested hills and part of the Exploits River system. Its elevation and cool northern climate influence the water temperature throughout the year. In early spring, following the ice melt in May, the lake remains very cold, averaging around 37–43°F (3–6°C). By late May and June, as air temperatures rise, the surface water warms gradually to about 50–57°F (10–14°C). During midsummer, from July through August, the surface temperature in shallower bays can reach 63–68°F (17–20°C), while deeper areas stay noticeably cooler. As autumn approaches, the lake cools again below 55°F (13°C) by late September as the days shorten and nights become colder.
Swimming in Beothuk Lake is allowed, but it is typically considered a cold-water experience. The clear, fresh water and natural surroundings make it a peaceful and scenic spot for recreation, yet the lake’s depth and cool temperatures limit comfortable swimming to midsummer. Most visitors enjoy short dips or wading close to shore on warm days rather than extended swims. The best swimming period is from late June through early September, when surface temperatures and weather conditions are most favorable for outdoor activity.
