*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
The Chattahoochee River flows directly through Roswell, Georgia, and its water temperature is heavily influenced by the upstream Buford Dam, which releases very cold water from the bottom of Lake Lanier. Consequently, even in the peak summer months, the river remains much cooler than typical Georgia lakes, with temperatures generally peaking in a chilly range of 68∘F to 75∘F (20∘C to 24∘C). In the winter months, the temperature drops further, usually ranging from 40∘F to 55∘F (4∘C to 13∘C).
Swimming in the Chattahoochee River near Roswell is strongly discouraged by park authorities due to the serious risks involved. While the river is extremely popular for floating, tubing, kayaking, and fishing, its cold temperature—especially below 55∘F—poses a major risk of hypothermia, even to strong swimmers. Additionally, the river's flow and water level can change suddenly and dramatically due to unscheduled releases from upstream dams, creating dangerous currents. Finally, water quality can degrade rapidly after heavy rainfall due to stormwater runoff, making primary contact recreation unsafe due to high E. coli bacteria counts.
