*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Hoover, located in central Alabama near Birmingham, is surrounded by several lakes and rivers, including the Cahaba River and the reservoirs within Oak Mountain State Park. The region’s humid subtropical climate produces mild winters and hot summers, resulting in relatively warm water temperatures for much of the year. In winter, water in local rivers and lakes typically stays between 8–12 °C (46–54 °F). During spring, as air temperatures rise, the water warms to around 15–22 °C (59–72 °F). By midsummer, the surface water in lakes such as Double Oak Lake and the Cahaba River can reach 25–30 °C (77–86 °F), while shaded or deeper areas remain a few degrees cooler. In autumn, the temperature gradually drops back to 15–20 °C (59–68 °F) as the weather cools.
Swimming in and around Hoover is allowed and popular during the warmest months, from late May through early September. The beaches and designated swimming areas at Oak Mountain State Park provide safe and clean spots for recreational swimming. The Cahaba River also offers opportunities for wading and tubing in summer, though currents and water levels vary. Outside the summer season, cooler water and changing conditions make swimming less appealing, but these water bodies remain inviting for kayaking, fishing, and scenic walks year-round.
