*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
King’s Lynn, a historic port town in Norfolk, stands near the mouth of the River Great Ouse, where the river widens and meets the tidal waters of The Wash. This estuarine location gives the water a strong maritime character, with temperatures influenced by both freshwater inflows and tides from the North Sea. In winter, the water generally remains between 5 and 7°C (41–45°F), staying cold and fast-moving. By spring, it warms slightly to around 9–12°C (48–54°F), and in midsummer, July and August, surface temperatures can reach 17–19°C (63–66°F). Because of the tidal mixing and depth, the water often feels cooler than inland stretches. By early autumn, it typically settles around 12–14°C (54–57°F), maintaining a steady chill through most of the year.
Swimming in the River Great Ouse at King’s Lynn is not recommended due to strong tides, muddy banks, and fluctuating water quality near the estuary. The current can be powerful, particularly during high and low tides, making it better suited to experienced open-water swimmers or for viewing from the shore. However, the riverside remains a focal point for recreation and walking. Visitors can enjoy the town’s maritime heritage, the historic quay, and nearby natural attractions such as The Wash National Nature Reserve and coastal trails toward Hunstanton.
