Jaca, located in the province of Huesca in the Aragonese Pyrenees, lies along the banks of the Aragón River, which flows from the high mountain glaciers near Canfranc. The river carries cold and clear water, reflecting its alpine origin. During winter, the water temperature is typically between 2 and 5 °C, remaining very cold due to snowmelt and low air temperatures. In spring, as the snow begins to thaw, the temperature rises slightly to 7–10 °C but remains brisk. In summer, near Jaca, the river can reach 14–18 °C in calmer stretches exposed to sunlight, while upstream sections stay colder. By autumn, it cools again to around 8–12 °C.
Swimming in the Aragón River near Jaca is possible but not common, mainly because of its low temperature and strong current in many areas.
