** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Kuldīga, a historic town in western Latvia, is set on the Venta River with nearby small lakes that reflect the temperate maritime climate of the region. Typical water temperatures in these shallow lakes follow a seasonal pattern: in spring surface temperatures generally range from about 4–12 °C (39–54 °F) as the water warms after ice melt; in summer they commonly reach 18–24 °C (64–75 °F) at their warmest, depending on sunlight and depth; autumn sees cooling back to roughly 8–15 °C (46–59 °F); and in winter lake water approaches freezing, around 0–1 °C (32–34 °F), often covered by ice. Actual conditions vary year to year and from site to site, with sheltered, shallow bays warming faster than deeper or flowing parts connected to the river.
Swimming in the lakes and in the Venta near Kuldīga is possible during the warmer months and is generally allowed where local authorities have not imposed restrictions; designated bathing spots are preferred because they are more likely to be monitored for water quality and safety. In winter swimming is usually impractical and unsafe due to ice and near-freezing water temperatures. Visitors should follow local signage, be aware of current, underwater hazards and water-quality notices, and take care with cold-water exposure even in early or late season when temperatures remain low.
