*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Leipzig, located in the state of Saxony, Germany, is beautifully situated on the banks of the White Elster River. The river flows through the heart of the city, creating a picturesque landscape. The water temperature in the White Elster River varies significantly throughout the year. During the summer months, typically between June and August, the water can warm up to about 20°C (68°F), while in the colder winter months, from December through February, the temperature can dip to nearly freezing, around 0°C (32°F). Therefore, the water temperature would be most suitable for swimming during the warm, summer months.
Despite the favorable summer water temperatures, swimming in the White Elster River in Leipzig, especially in the city centre, is generally not recommended. The river is not only quite fast-flowing in some parts, but also its depth varies significantly, and there might be unseen dangers underwater like sharp objects, strong undercurrents, or sudden drop-offs. Moreover, it's also important to note the water quality, which might not be optimal for swimming due to urban pollution. However, there are some designated swimming areas in nearby lakes formed by the river, like Lake Cospuden or Lake Markkleeberg, where swimming is both safe and supervised.
