Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.

Location & Local Information
Frankfurt am Main is a bustling city located in the Hesse region of Germany, strategically situated on the banks of the Main River. This river, aptly named after the city itself, plays a vital role in the city's culture and aesthetics. The water temperature of the Main River fluctuates depending on the season. Like most European water bodies, the Main River experiences its highest water temperatures in the months of July and August, where they can soar up to around 20°C (68°F). In winter, however, the temperatures plummet and can go down drastically to around 3-5°C (37-41°F).
With regard to swimming, it is important to note that swimming in the Main River within the direct vicinity of Frankfurt may not be advisable. The river is a busy navigation route with many cargo ships and is also not monitored for swimming safety. Moreover, the river has strong currents and cold water temperatures for a large part of the year which might make swimming hazardous. However, there are some regulated swimming beaches upstream and downstream from the city where swimming is allowed and is safer, but even there it's recommended to always be cautious due to potential shipping traffic and the river's naturally strong currents. Always ensure to follow local regulations and swim at your own risk.
