Copenhagen lies where the brackish waters of the Øresund and inner harbor meet the city, giving local sea temperatures a noticeable seasonal swing. In winter months the water is cold, typically around 0–4 °C, while the early spring thaw usually brings temperatures up to roughly 4–11 °C by late spring. Summer is the warmest period, with sea temperatures most often between 15–20 °C and peaking in July and August when they commonly reach the upper part of that range. As autumn progresses the sea cools again, with September often still mild around 12–17 °C but slipping toward single figures by November and into the winter low range.
