*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Grand Beach Provincial Park is one of Manitoba's premier summer destinations, situated on the eastern shore of the south basin of Lake Winnipeg, a very large, shallow body of water. Due to the wide expanse and shallow nature of the south basin, the water warms up well during the hot summer months. In the peak summer season, surface water temperatures are generally comfortable for swimming, typically ranging from 20∘C to 25∘C (68∘F to 77∘F). However, the vast lake is highly susceptible to wind-driven cooling, or upwelling, which can rapidly drop the water temperature. In the winter, the water is near freezing, typically around 0∘C to 3∘C (32∘F to 37∘F), and the lake is frozen over.
Swimming is widely permitted and heavily encouraged at Grand Beach, which is consistently ranked as one of North America's best beaches due to its fine white sand and rolling dunes. The Provincial Park is maintained for recreation, and swimming is a core activity. However, there are no official lifeguards on duty at the public beaches, meaning all swimming is done at one's own risk. Visitors must be aware that the lake is prone to high E. coli readings in the summer, particularly after storms or periods of high runoff, and should check Manitoba Health advisories before swimming. Strong winds can also create large, dangerous waves, making caution necessary.
