** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

The Veleka (Велека) is a relatively small river in southeastern Bulgaria that runs through wooded Strandzha terrain to the Black Sea. Its water temperatures vary with the seasons and local shading: in winter months the river commonly registers around 5–8 °C (41–46 °F), spring temperatures typically rise to roughly 8–15 °C (46–59 °F), summer can bring the warmest stretches of about 18–24 °C (64–75 °F) in shallow, sun-exposed pools, and autumn sees cooling waters in the neighborhood of 12–18 °C (54–64 °F). Shallow sections near the mouth warm more quickly, while shaded, faster-flowing upland reaches stay noticeably cooler.
Swimming in the Veleka is practiced by visitors, especially near the river mouth and more open reaches, and is generally allowed in public-access areas; there are no widespread legal bans across the river. However, some parts lie within Strandzha Nature Park and sensitive habitats where access or activities can be restricted to protect flora and fauna, and local rules should be observed. Practical considerations—cold pockets, currents, underwater obstacles and the absence of lifeguards—mean that bathing is often best suited to calm, shallow spots and to swimmers who account for variable conditions.
