*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

The River Don, flowing from the Cairngorm Mountains through Aberdeenshire to the North Sea at Aberdeen, is one of Scotland’s most scenic and characterful rivers. Its water is clear, cool, and fast-flowing, shaped by its upland origins and the region’s northern climate. In winter, the Don typically measures around 2–5°C (36–41°F), staying cold and energetic after snowmelt. As spring arrives, it gradually warms to about 7–10°C (45–50°F). During midsummer, particularly in July and August, temperatures can reach 14–16°C (57–61°F) in sheltered pools and slower stretches. By early autumn, the water cools again to roughly 9–11°C (48–52°F), keeping a brisk freshness that lasts through much of the year.
Swimming in the River Don is allowed and popular among experienced wild swimmers who appreciate its natural beauty and clear water. The river’s upper reaches can be cold and swift, but lower stretches near Inverurie and Dyce offer calmer sections suitable for safe summer dips. The water quality is generally high, though caution is advised after rainfall when currents strengthen. Beyond swimming, the Don Valley offers scenic trails, fishing, and wildlife watching, with nearby attractions such as Bennachie Hill, Castle Fraser, and the coastal landscapes around Aberdeen providing further opportunities for outdoor exploration.
