Swimming in such conditions is possible, but for most people, the time spent in the water should be limited to avoid hypothermia. Even experienced swimmers may feel discomfort if they stay in the water for too long. To improve comfort and safety, a wetsuit can be used. *** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

The Nechako River, located in central British Columbia, flows eastward from the Coast Mountains through Vanderhoof and Prince George before joining the Fraser River. Its water temperature varies with both elevation and seasonal meltwater from surrounding mountains. In early spring, when snowmelt begins, the river remains cold, averaging around 37–43°F (3–6°C). As air temperatures rise in late spring and early summer, the river warms slightly to about 50–57°F (10–14°C). During midsummer, particularly in July and August, surface temperatures in shallower or slower-moving sections may reach 63–68°F (17–20°C), although deeper or faster stretches remain much cooler. By late September, the Nechako cools again to below 55°F (13°C) as nights lengthen and autumn approaches.
Swimming in the Nechako River is allowed, but conditions are best suited for short, cautious swims rather than extended recreation. The water is clean and refreshing in summer, but the current can be strong, especially near Prince George and downstream sections. Many residents prefer wading or cooling off along the riverbanks on hot days rather than swimming across. For those seeking warmer and calmer waters, nearby lakes such as Nulki Lake or Sinkut Lake offer safer, more comfortable swimming conditions. The Nechako remains a scenic and vital river, more appreciated for its beauty and wildlife than for swimming.
