*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
The Miramichi River, one of New Brunswick’s best-known waterways, flows through the heart of the province toward Miramichi Bay on the Gulf of St. Lawrence. Its water temperature changes noticeably with the seasons, reflecting the region’s humid continental climate. In early spring, as snow and ice melt, the river remains cold, averaging around 37–43°F (3–6°C). By late May and June, temperatures begin to rise to about 52–59°F (11–15°C). During midsummer, from July through August, the surface temperature in calmer sections and swimming holes often reaches 66–73°F (19–23°C), making the river comfortable for short swims. As autumn approaches, cooling air and shorter days lower the temperature again below 59°F (15°C) by late September.
Swimming in the Miramichi River is allowed and enjoyed at several popular spots, particularly where the current slows and the river widens into pools. The water is clear and refreshing in summer, offering pleasant conditions for both swimming and canoeing. However, in spring and early summer, strong currents and cooler temperatures make swimming less suitable. By July, the water becomes comfortable enough for recreational use, especially on warm, sunny days. The best swimming season lasts from late June through early September, when the river is at its warmest and most inviting.
