*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

The river Ljungan in Västernorrland County (Swedish: Ljungan) typically runs cold for much of the year because of its northern location and snowmelt-fed headwaters. In winter the water is close to freezing, often 0–1 °C (32–34 °F) where ice forms; spring melt sees temperatures rise to roughly 2–8 °C (36–46 °F). Early summer commonly brings 8–15 °C (46–59 °F) in many stretches, while the warmest late-summer surface temperatures in sheltered, slow-moving sections can reach about 12–20 °C (54–68 °F). By autumn the river cools again to roughly 6–12 °C (43–54 °F). Local conditions, flow, depth and shading make temperatures variable along the river and year to year.
Swimming in Ljungan is generally allowed under Sweden’s right of public access, and people do swim in calmer bays, slow reaches and designated recreational spots during summer when temperatures are most comfortable. Caution is advised because strong currents, rapids, sudden depth changes, regulated flows from hydro facilities and cold shock can make many stretches hazardous. Water quality is usually good, but it’s wise to follow local signage and authorities’ advice. Ice swimming or winter bathing is practiced by experienced individuals with appropriate precautions; for most people the safest and most pleasant swimming window is midsummer.
