*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

The Iijoki River, located in North Ostrobothnia, is one of Finland’s major rivers, heavily influenced by its northern position and the numerous hydroelectric power plants along its course. Swimming is permitted in designated areas, often at public beaches or accessible riverbanks, a right protected by Finland's Everyman’s Rights. However, river swimming requires caution due to potentially strong currents and the rapid changes in water flow caused by the power plant regulation. Designated bathing spots are the safest places to enter the water.
The water temperature of the Iijoki River follows a typical northern cycle, but the depth and current keep it generally cold. During the long winter, approximately from November to April, the river is largely ice-covered, with the water underneath the ice remaining near freezing, usually between 0∘C and 4∘C. The short period for comfortable surface swimming is generally limited to July. In this warmest month, the water temperature can reach a range of 16∘C to 20∘C in calmer, shallower areas. For the rest of the year, the river is significantly colder, only suitable for dedicated cold-water swimmers.
