*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

The Churchill River, flowing across northern Saskatchewan through a network of lakes, rapids, and forests, is one of Canada’s most impressive northern waterways. Its water temperature remains cool for most of the year due to its high latitude, depth, and the influence of glacial and spring-fed sources. In early spring, following ice breakup in May, the river’s surface temperature is typically around 37–41°F (3–5°C). By late May and June, the water begins to warm gradually to about 48–55°F (9–13°C). During midsummer, from July through August, calmer and shallower sections of the river can reach 59–66°F (15–19°C), while the main flow and deeper pools stay colder. By late September, the water cools again below 52°F (11°C) as autumn weather settles in.
Swimming in the Churchill River is allowed, but the cold temperature, strong currents, and remote setting make it suitable only for experienced swimmers or brief dips in calm areas. Even in midsummer, the water can feel chilly, and prolonged swimming may lead to discomfort or hypothermia. Most visitors enjoy the river for canoeing, kayaking, and fishing rather than for swimming. The best opportunities for short swims occur in sheltered coves or sandy shorelines during July and August, when the surface water is at its warmest.
