*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

The Assiniboine River, flowing through western and southern Manitoba before joining the Red River in Winnipeg, is an important prairie waterway shaped by a continental climate and seasonal runoff. In early spring, as snow and ice begin to melt, the river’s temperature remains cold, averaging around 37–43°F (3–6°C). By late May and June, it warms gradually to about 50–59°F (10–15°C) as air temperatures rise and water levels stabilize. During midsummer, from July through August, surface temperatures in calmer, shallow stretches can reach 64–70°F (18–21°C), while deeper or faster-moving areas remain cooler. In early autumn, as nights become colder and rainfall increases, the water temperature drops again below 55°F (13°C) by late September.
Swimming in the Assiniboine River is technically allowed, but it is generally not advised because of strong currents, uneven depths, and variable water quality, especially near urban areas. The water can feel pleasant for short dips in midsummer, particularly in rural or shallow sections, but swimmers must exercise caution. Most residents and visitors prefer to enjoy the river from its banks or engage in activities such as canoeing, kayaking, and fishing. The Assiniboine is best appreciated for its scenic and recreational value rather than as a regular swimming destination.
