** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Ångermanälven, the major river running through Västernorrland County, shows marked seasonal variation in water temperature depending on location and flow. In winter the river is close to freezing, commonly around 0–2 °C (32–35.6 °F) with ice or ice-edge conditions for large parts of the season. During spring thaw temperatures typically rise to roughly 1–8 °C (34–46 °F) as snowmelt and high flows keep the water cold. In summer the lower, slower stretches and reservoirs can warm to roughly 12–20 °C (53.6–68 °F), and sheltered bays or impounded areas may occasionally reach the low 20s °C (approaching 70–72 °F) during warm spells. Upstream and fast-flowing sections generally remain cooler year-round.
Swimming in Ångermanälven is possible in many places but depends on site-specific factors. Sweden’s right of public access means entering the water is generally allowed, yet safety concerns—strong currents, rapids, sudden releases from hydroelectric dams, boat traffic and variable water quality—make some stretches unsuitable. The season for comfortable bathing is mainly midsummer when temperatures are highest; outside that period cold-water shock and hypothermia become realistic hazards (waters below about 15 °C / 59 °F feel brisk, and below 10 °C / 50 °F pose significant risk). For safer swimming choose designated bathing spots or sheltered bays, heed local warnings and avoid areas below dams or in heavy currents.
