Poprad lies at the foot of the High Tatras, where the climate and surrounding rivers give the local waters a fresh, mountain character. The Poprad River, which flows through the city, stays relatively cool for most of the year, with temperatures in summer usually between 17–21°C depending on weather conditions. After heavy rain or in early summer, the river can feel noticeably colder. Smaller ponds and recreational lakes around the city tend to warm up faster, sometimes reaching 22–24°C during the hottest weeks of July and August.
