Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lorient, situated in Brittany on the Blavet River, is close to where the river flows into the Atlantic Ocean, giving it unique coastal and riverine characteristics. Due to this proximity, the Blavet’s water temperature in Lorient is influenced by both river and sea temperatures, which means it remains cool throughout the year. In summer, the water temperature averages around 15–18°C (59–64°F), while in winter, it can drop to 7–10°C (45–50°F). These conditions make swimming in the Blavet near Lorient less common, as the temperatures and tidal currents can be challenging for safe swimming.
Although swimming directly in the Blavet River isn’t common in Lorient, the city is well-known for its easy access to nearby beaches along the Atlantic coast, which are popular for swimming, surfing, and other water sports. Beaches like Plage de Larmor and Plage du Toulhars provide more comfortable environments for swimming, with warmer water temperatures in the summer. Lorient’s picturesque harbor and riverside views along the Blavet also offer relaxing and scenic spots for walks, picnics, and enjoying the maritime atmosphere.
