Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Avignon, a picturesque city in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region of southern France, lies on the banks of the Rhône River. The river is central to the city's charm and historical significance, but it’s also a powerful and sometimes dangerous body of water. The water temperature in the Rhône River near Avignon varies with the seasons. In the summer months, particularly from June to September, the water temperature can reach around 20°C to 22°C (68°F to 72°F), making it appealing for water activities. However, despite the warmer temperatures, the Rhône is known for its strong currents and deep waters, making swimming directly in the river risky and generally not recommended.
While swimming in the Rhône itself is not advisable due to these factors, the surrounding region offers plenty of alternative ways to enjoy the water. For instance, the Étang de la Couronne, a nearby natural area, provides a safer environment for swimming and water sports. Additionally, the Mediterranean coast is just a short drive from Avignon, offering beautiful beaches such as those at Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer, where swimming is more suitable and enjoyable in the warm Mediterranean waters.
