*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Saguenay, located in the Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean region of Quebec, is surrounded by numerous freshwater bodies, including the Saguenay River and the vast Lac Saint-Jean. The region’s northern latitude and cool climate keep water temperatures relatively low for much of the year, though the lakes warm considerably in midsummer. In early spring, after the ice melts in May, rivers and lakes remain cold, averaging around 37–43°F (3–6°C). By late May and June, temperatures rise to about 50–59°F (10–15°C). During midsummer, from July through August, Lac Saint-Jean and smaller lakes in the area can reach 66–73°F (19–23°C) in shallow zones, while deeper or faster-moving waters such as the Saguenay River stay cooler, around 59–63°F (15–17°C). By late September, water temperatures begin to drop again below 55°F (13°C).
Swimming in the Saguenay region is allowed and very popular during the warm summer months. Lac Saint-Jean, with its sandy beaches and clear, mild water, offers the best swimming conditions, especially near places like Saint-Gédéon and Métabetchouan. The Saguenay River, however, is much colder and less suited for swimming due to its depth and strong currents. The best swimming season extends from late June to early September, when both air and surface water temperatures are at their most comfortable for outdoor recreation.
