*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
The principal body of water in Regina is Wascana Lake, a man-made reservoir on Wascana Creek. Due to the area's extreme continental climate, the lake's water temperature varies widely. In the winter, the water is near freezing, typically ranging from 0∘C to 5∘C (32∘F to 41∘F), with the lake completely freezing over. In the peak summer months, the surface water can warm considerably, with recorded temperatures sometimes peaking around 22∘C (72∘F), although this is highly dependent on weather conditions and depth.
Swimming in Wascana Lake is not recommended and strongly discouraged. While the summer temperatures might appear suitable, the primary reason against swimming is persistent water quality concern, specifically due to the presence of waterfowl that can elevate bacterial counts (E. coli). The lake's use is primarily restricted to non-motorized recreation like rowing, canoeing, and sailing. For safe, supervised swimming, the City of Regina directs residents to its excellent Wascana Outdoor Pool, an accessible, newly reconstructed facility located on the lake's edge, confirming that recreational water contact is preferred in controlled environments.
