*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Miramichi, located in northeastern New Brunswick, is surrounded by a network of rivers, lakes, and streams, with the Miramichi River being the most prominent. The region experiences a humid continental climate, which causes substantial seasonal changes in water temperature. In early spring, after the snow and ice melt, the Miramichi River and nearby lakes remain cold, averaging around 37–43°F (3–6°C). By late May and June, temperatures gradually rise to about 52–59°F (11–15°C). During midsummer, from July through August, surface water in calm stretches and shallow lakes can reach 66–73°F (19–23°C), providing some of the most comfortable freshwater swimming conditions in the province. As autumn begins, the water cools again below 59°F (15°C) by late September.
Swimming in the Miramichi area is allowed and widely enjoyed, particularly in the many quiet pools and small lakes scattered throughout the region. The Miramichi River is well known for its clear water and scenic surroundings, attracting both swimmers and anglers in summer. While the main current of the river can be strong, numerous calmer spots are suitable for safe recreational swimming. The best time to swim is from late June to early September, when both the air and water temperatures are at their warmest and most inviting.
