*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast

Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.

Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information

Kelowna, located in the heart of British Columbia’s Okanagan Valley, sits along the eastern shore of Okanagan Lake, one of the warmest and most popular lakes in the province. The lake’s water temperature changes with the region’s dry, sunny climate and relatively low elevation. In early spring, the water remains cool, averaging around 46–50°F (8–10°C) as snowmelt from nearby hills enters the basin. By late May and June, the temperature rises to about 59–66°F (15–19°C), becoming comfortable for boating and short swims. The warmest period occurs in July and August, when surface temperatures reach 70–75°F (21–24°C) in sheltered areas near Kelowna’s beaches. By late September, the lake cools again to around 61°F (16°C) as autumn weather sets in.

Swimming in Okanagan Lake is very popular, and Kelowna offers numerous safe and well-maintained beaches such as City Park, Gyro Beach, and Rotary Beach. The warm summer water and sandy shorelines create excellent conditions for swimming, paddleboarding, and other water sports. Because the lake is large and deep, its central areas remain cooler, but nearshore zones warm up comfortably during sunny days. Swimming is best from late June to early September, when both the air and water temperatures are at their peak, making Kelowna a favorite destination for summer recreation.
