*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Kamloops, located in the interior of British Columbia, lies at the confluence of the North and South Thompson Rivers, both of which strongly influence the city’s climate and recreation. The Thompson River experiences wide seasonal temperature variations due to snowmelt, mountain runoff, and warm summer air. In early spring, the river is still cold, averaging around 39–46°F (4–8°C) as snowmelt increases. By late May and June, temperatures rise to about 54–61°F (12–16°C). During midsummer, from July through August, the South Thompson River near Kamloops can reach 68–73°F (20–23°C), making it one of the warmer major rivers in the province. By late September, the river begins to cool again, dropping below 59°F (15°C) as autumn progresses.
Swimming in the Thompson River at Kamloops is both allowed and popular during the summer months. The warm, dry interior climate contributes to pleasant water conditions, particularly in sheltered sections and along sandy beaches such as Riverside Park and Pioneer Park. The current can vary depending on the season and rainfall, so swimmers should always stay near designated areas. During July and August, the combination of warm air, mild water, and scenic surroundings makes the Thompson River a favored spot for swimming, paddleboarding, and tubing among locals and visitors alike.
