Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.
Water temperature data for this location is gathered from various sources, including buoys and satellite sea and ocean surface maps provided by the NOAA agency. We also incorporate data from local authorities in each specific location worldwide to ensure more accurate temperature readings.

Annual Water Temperature Trend
Umiujaq is a small Inuit community in northern Quebec’s Nunavik region located near the coastal waterways and a variety of inland lakes and bays. Because of its high-latitude location and the influence of sea ice, water temperatures show a strong seasonal cycle. Coastal and Hudson Bay-influenced waters around Umiujaq are close to freezing as ice melts and typically sit near 0 °C in spring and early summer, rising only to about 4–8 °C at the warmest in midsummer before cooling again toward 0–3 °C in autumn. Sheltered inland lakes and shallow ponds warm more readily and commonly range from roughly 2–6 °C in early summer to about 8–15 °C in the warmest weeks of July and August, then decline through September.

Location, Beaches & Local Information
Swimming Conditions
Swimming and beach opportunities in the Umiujaq area reflect these cold conditions and the brief warm season. Open coastal swimming is generally for experienced cold-water swimmers or those using thermal protection such as wetsuits, since even midsummer sea temperatures are chilly. For more comfortable and family-oriented swimming, shallow lakes and protected bays offer the best prospects during July and August when water can reach the lower double digits in °C; these spots also provide calmer water and informal beaches for day visits. Facilities are limited, so swimmers should plan short stays in the water, use flotation aids, avoid swimming alone, and be prepared for rapid weather changes, wind and cold shock.
