Graz, the capital of Styria in Austria, is situated along the Mur River, which flows through the city from south to north. The river's water temperature fluctuates throughout the year, typically ranging from 5°C to 18°C (41°F to 64°F), depending on the season. In summer, the river can reach temperatures around 18°C to 20°C (64°F to 68°F), but its flow remains relatively swift due to its alpine origins, keeping the water cooler than lakes in the area.
While swimming directly in the Mur within Graz is not widely recommended due to the river's currents and water quality, some areas along the river offer recreational opportunities. The riverbanks are often used for walking, cycling, and enjoying the scenic views. For swimming and water sports, residents and visitors prefer the nearby swimming pools or the Grazer Badesee, a local lake that offers a controlled environment for swimming.
