Seliger is a system of lakes of glacial origin in the Tver and Novgorod regions of Russia. Lake area 260 sq. km, including 38 sq. m is occupied by islands (there are more than 160 of them on the lake), and the area of the entire basin is 2275 sq. km. Seliger receives 110 tributaries, and only one river Selizharovka flows out of it. The lake, located at an altitude of 205 meters above sea level, is of glacial origin. This explains its peculiar shape - it is not a lake in the usual sense, but rather a chain of lakes stretching 100 km from north to south. and interconnected by short narrow ducts. The climate on Seliger is mild and humid. The average annual temperature is 4 degrees Celsius. The warmest month is July. Average annual precipitation is about 600 mm. Summer is warm and sunny here. Rains, although frequent, are usually short. Summer and autumn come two weeks later than in the Moscow region. The prevailing winds are from the west and southwest. The latter, in the local language - mokrik, brings warmth and rain. Ice on Seliger lasts about five months. By May 1, the lake usually diverges, so if spring is early, May Day holidays can be seen already on the hike. Focus on the weather in Moscow. As a rule, the air temperature at Seliger is the same. The lake water heats up quickly. Already in June, the temperature of the upper layer reaches almost 20C, and in July and the first half of August the water warms up to 25C.

Below is information about the current water temperature, the current trend of its change, information about the weather in selected locations in the Seliger Lake.
