Southern Bug - a river in the south-west of Ukraine, flows through the territory of Khmelnitsky, Vinnytsia, Kirovograd, Odessa and Nikolaev regions. The river is 806 km long. The river is fed by snow and rain (prevails), as well as by underground runoff. High water from late February to mid-April - early May, low water from June to February; floods are rare. The river runoff is characterized by significant variability and little regulation. The Southern Bug does not have a cascade of reservoirs, large hydroelectric power plants (such as the Dnieper). It freezes almost regularly in November (December) - February, opens up by mid-March; the ice regime is not constant, often in winter there is repeated melting and freezing. There is no freeze up in the lower reaches during warm winters. The water temperature in the Southern Bug heats up to comfortable values at the end of May, during the summer it stays at around 20 - 25 degrees, and by the end of September it drops to 15 degrees. In October, the water temperature in the river becomes even cooler. Such cities as Vinnytsia, Yuzhnoukrainsk, Pervomaisk, Nikolaev and others are located on the Southern Bug.
