Lena River: general information
Lena is a river in Eastern Siberia of Russia. Its waterway begins near Lake Baikal, makes a huge bend towards Yakutsk, and then rushes north and flows into the Laptev Sea, forming a vast delta. The length together with the delta is 4400 km. The nutrition and regime of the Lena River are determined by its beginning and flow in the permafrost zone. The main source of water is melt and rainwater. The snow feeding regime determines the seasonality in the water level in the river, the peak of which occurs in late autumn, when snow melting reaches its maximum values. Despite its northern location, in the summer months the water in the Lena River warms up quite well and becomes comfortable for swimming. Maximum temperatures in June, July and August exceed 20 degrees. But it must be borne in mind that the minimum temperatures during this period can drop below 15 degrees. In September, the water becomes cool, and in October it is already very cold.
